Quang Ngai, Vietnam -- Marion McGoven, ReSurge board member
Little Pho learned how to walk early, so early, in fact, that her parents didn't know she could. One day when she was 8 months old, she followed her mother into the kitchen, she reached up and pulled some recently boiled water from the table and was severely burned on her feet. Her right foot had a serious burn scar contracture, where the untreated burned skin had shrunk. This caused the toes on her feet to be squashed into a configuration where her middle toe sat on top of her second and fourth toe. Dr. Bill McClure released the contracture, took a skin graft from her groin and reconstructed her foot, so that her toes were actually aligned in order.
In a few weeks, she will be able to walk and run like a 4-year-old girl should.
