Disturbing footage has emerged over the last two days reportedly showing the aftermath of an incendiary bomb attack on a school in northern Syria. According to news reports, at least 10 students were killed, with many more children and adults suffering serious burns.
Video footage (WARNING: contains graphic images) shows both adults and children arriving at a basic hospital with their clothes charred and their bodies appearing badly burned.
As a reconstructive surgery organization, we work to reduce the suffering of thousands of burn victims each year by repairing injuries and renewing health. We envision a world in which no human being suffers physically or emotionally from a preventable burn injury, and we are deeply saddened by the recent events in Syria.
It is our greater hope that one day we will never again see patients arriving on operating tables due to these terrible circumstances. Until then, we applaud the work being done by physicians to care for the children and adults who have been injured.
