Last week we were thrilled to see Dr. Shafquat Khundkar, our surgical outreach program director in Bangladesh, and Dr. Nancy Chee, a dedicated ReSurge volunteer occupational and hand therapist, honored by The REAL Awards on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC.
Created by Save the Children and the Frontline Health Workers Coalition, this global awards program is designed to celebrate and accelerate the lifesaving work of health workers around the globe. Nancy and Shafquat received their awards in a special presentation at Dirksen Senate Office Building on April 9. Journalist Cokie Roberts of ABC News spoke at the presentation, and Save the Children President and CEO Carolyn Miles presented the awards.
Joined by Chief Advocacy Officer Sara Anderson, Shafquat and Nancy also took part in Save the Children's advocacy summit prior to the award ceremony. They also met with members of Congress to discuss the importance of preventing and treating severe burns, holding successful meetings with the offices of Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-CA), Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-CA18), Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA13), Rep. Mike Honda (D-CA17), Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA12) and Rep. Jared Huffman (D-CA2).
We are so grateful for the inspiring and dedicated work that Shafquat and Nancy do every day and proud to have had them in the ReSurge community for so many years. Please join us in congratulating both of them on this well-deserved honor!
